About Us

Cynhenid (Welsh for Intrinsic – sense of belonging) was established in 2020.

Cynhenid Care was established to provide bespoke support and intervention for children and young people; this support would be delivered by a resilient, motivated, and experienced staff team who are committed to providing a safe, warm and nurturing environment, which affords the children and young people a space to grow and develop.

The Senior management team had become frustrated and disillusioned by the introduction and growth of large providers, and believed that the bigger these organisations got, the smaller the child and staff team became, thus losing sight of the most important thing; the needs of the child.

Cynhenid Care – Ethos and Philosophy

Our overall aim and purpose at Cynhenid Care is to embrace the foundational belief in Redeemability of each young person we support. Focusing upon the underlying need whilst effectively implementing layers of intervention in relation to each individual child.

We provide safe, warm, and nurturing environments that affords young people the opportunity to feel secure, to reflect and develop coping mechanisms that will hopefully, enhance their level of resilience and confidence, allowing everyone the opportunity to grow and develop.

Our initial focus of work is to provide young people with the opportunity to have their current needs effectively assessed across a variety of social and emotional developmental areas, so future support services can implement effective planning to meet their needs within their short, medium, and long-term futures. In addition, we subscribe to a holistic approach of aiming to provide a positive service to the young people we care for.

This means providing consistent positive adult role models, good carers, educational opportunities, good accommodation, broad leisure and recreational opportunities, good food and seeking to maximise the individual’s strengths as well as considering their needs, whilst celebrating their successes.

We aim to provide an inclusive environment that is high in warmth and low in criticism, whilst developing realistic and real-world boundaries set in context of the young person’s prevailing circumstances, especially their cognitive age.

Our Interventions are designed to match the cognitive abilities of everyone, whilst remaining flexible enough to adapt to changing needs. The duration of a young person’s placement is subject to their individual needs as outlined in their Care Plan and Child’s Placement Plan but can be until 18 to support transitions into adulthood.

Cynhenid Care staff acknowledge that the presenting child is a result of their early developmental experiences, which may influence how they react or respond, and that the presenting behaviour is separate from the individual themselves.

Our therapist is integral to the work we conduct with the children and young people, and we use the DDP therapeutic model implemented through PACE.

Specifically, we aim to:

Work with each young person to implement the objectives of their Child’s Placement Plan and the Placing Authority Care Plan.

Provide an environment in which young people are supported and encouraged to develop physically, psychologically, intellectually, and socially. Provide a place of safety to reflect and to start to develop skills that will enhance future development and support the young person, educational, emotional, and social needs to support future planning.

Provide maximum opportunities for each young person to mature as an individual, to develop their personal identity and accept responsibility for their own actions.

Promote the ordinary living skills of young people and encourage them to care for themselves.

Provide an ethos of reflection and resolution, rather than consequence and sanction to develop understanding and self-regulation. (Risk dependant)

Offer support, professional friendship, encouragement, and enable the young people to help them to achieve to the best of their ability and enable them to have more opportunities/choices in their future development.
